Post 2, Part 2 - SCP Index

Below is a brief explanation of featured SCPs and other useful information to help the contents of this brief make some semblance of sense. There is a lot more to all of these entries than I have time or space to fit here, so if you wish to read more, I would recommend the official SCP wiki for more info.

Dr. Bright

“Name: Dr. Jack Bright also answers to Doc, Dr. J, or "Oh god no."”

~Director Bright’s Personnel File(1)

Dr. Jack Bright is a mischievous and chaotic member of the SCP foundation staff who appears in many stories from around the foundation. Older brother of SCP-590, he was recruited when the foundation picked up his younger brother. While his unmatched knowledge of bioengineering and abnormal genetics make him an invaluable member of the staff, his wicked (and less than moral) sense of humour and his passion for 'the advancement of science' makes him... frightening, to work with.

Dr. Bright is technically dead, having been killed in a containment breach some years prior. He was, however, holding SCP-963 at the time which resulted in his consciousness being bound to it. Dr. Bright is able to possess the bodies of anyone wearing SCP-963. If said bodies are in contact with SCP-963 for longer than 3 months, the change is permanent. Tests show that this means there can indeed be more than one Dr. Bright at a time.

This is strictly banned by higher authorities.

Dr. Bright acts as the foundations local research director (to the sectors he isn't banned from, at least), bookie, and mad scientist. He's probably more dangerous than half the SCPs, to be honest...

Class D Personnel

Class D personnel are ‘expendable’ workers for the foundation used to interact and handle anomalies that are too hazardous to expose higher ranking workers to. The cannon fodder of the foundation, Class D personnel are considered property of the foundation and are often ‘sacrificed’ for science. They were often inmates put on death row before being given to the foundation, but there are circumstances that allow them to be taken from prisons, refugee populations, and other civilian sources. (2)

Object Classes

The Object Classes are classifications used to identify how easy an SCP is to contain. This ranking has very little to do with how dangerous the SCP is, and should not be taken as an indicator of the likelihood of bodily harm in interacting with the SCP in question. There are a few non-standard classifications, but I will only cover the standard ones here.

The Locked Box test is a generalized way of determining Object classes.

“If you lock it in a box, leave it alone, and nothing bad will happen, then it's probably Safe.

If you lock it in a box, leave it alone, and you're not entirely sure what will happen, then it's probably Euclid.

If you lock it in a box, leave it alone, and it easily escapes, then it's probably Keter.

If it is the box, then it's probably Thaumiel.” (3)

Safe

Safe-class SCPs are safely contained with little effort. These objects are often classed as such because the foundation has researched them to the point of predictability, compliance, or they have a specific trigger. However, again, classing an SCP as ‘Safe’ does not in any way imply that it is not capable of inflicting harm or death upon a person.

Euclid

Euclid-class SCPs are tricky to contain reliably, be it because they are as of yet not understood, or because they are unpredictable. They usually take more resources to keep contained or aren’t possible to contain all the time. Any SCP that is autonomous and/or sentient is often classed as Euclid due to the unpredictability of something that can act independently.

Keter

Keter-class SCPs are very difficult to contain. Containment is often highly complex and expensive. This can be due to a lack of understanding, or a lack of ability to contain the SCP with current available technology.

Keter class doesn’t inherently mean dangerous, just costly or difficult to contain, but they do tend to be anyway.

Thaumiel

Thaumiel-class SCPs are used to contain other SCPs. The very existence of this class is a high-level secret. Their locations, functions, and status are known to very, very, few.

Neutralized

Neutralized SCPs are, for whatever reason, no longer anomalous. Usually this means they’ve been destroyed.

SCP-049 - The Plague Doctor

Object Class: Euclid

SCP-049 takes the appearance of a tall man in the garb of a medieval plague doctor. These garments do not seem to be cloth, however, but appear to have grown from the SCP’s body. SCP-049 is, at default, docile. Intelligent, even, and cooperative with foundation staff. He is capable of speech in a wide variety of languages, but prefers english or medieval french. He expresses a desire to cure what he calls the pestilence. SCP-049 will identify personnel with ‘the pestilence’ and become hostile to them.

There seems to be no pattern to who SCP-049 identifies. There seems to be no connection to any actual illness. SCP-049 kills his victims by touching them, direct skin contact leads to an immediate ceasing of bodily functions, how this occurs is as yet unclear. When this is done, the SCP expresses remorse that it has done little to cure the pestilence, and will proceed to perform surgery on the corpse with equipment held in his doctor’s bag. This surgery, if successful, results in the corpse reanimating into an SCP-049-2. They only retain basic motor functions and don’t move much. But they can become very aggressive if provoked or directed to by SCP-049.

SCP-082 - The Giant

Object Class: Euclid

SCP-082 is genetically human, but, via some genetic quirk or anomalous means, has grown to giant proportions, he refers to himself as Ferdinand. SCP-082’s teeth are huge, and they only part to eat or sing. He is, apparently, capable of speech without opening his teeth. SCP-082 is very physically strong. His muscles are very dense, but X-rays have revealed that he had bullets, knives, and even sword blades lodged in his flesh from unsuccessful attacks against him. He speaks fluent french and accented english. He is quite amenable and carefree overall, and has shown to be intelligent in regards to memory and problem solving. He, however, seems incapable of differentiating fact and fiction. The concepts of parody and satire are lost on him. His favorite person in the world is Hannibal Lecter and he requests to see him often.

While unable to differentiate fact from fiction, he is apparently aware of the concept of lying. SCP-082 is quite perceptive in regards to lying and has called out foundation personnel for lying to him. He poorly lies when asked about his past. So far he’s referred to himself as, umoung other things, a vampire, Big Bird, Dr. Bright, Captain Hook, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Frankenstein, and Frankenstein's Monster. When confronted about these falsehoods, he replies that “when [he] lies, it is only through his teeth.”.

SCP-096 - The Shy Guy

Object Class: Euclid

SCP-096 is a tall, disproportionate humanoid with pale flesh, almost white. If SCP-096’s face is viewed by any living creature, it will cover its face and begin to cry and scream, entering a severe state of emotional distress. After a few minutes of this it will chase after the creature at extreme speeds and proceed to kill them. The same happens if video footage, photographs, and even drawings with sufficient detail are viewed. The foundation is yet to find anything that can keep SCP-096 from it’s intended target. SCP-096 has been used in termination attempts of other SCPs, notably SCP-682. This was unsuccessful, and both SCPs retained great damage from this encounter.

SCP-173 - The Sculpture

Object Class: Euclid

SCP-173 is a vaguely humanoid statue made of concrete and rebar, with traces of krylon spray paint on its ‘face’. The statue is seemingly alive and sentient, although not much more can be gleaned than that, as SCP-173 is totally incapable of movement when in any living creature’s line of sight. When it is out of sight, it can move at incredible speeds, and will kill any nearby personnel by breaking the base of the neck, although strangulation has also been observed.

SCP-213-FR - The Vagabonds of the Dark Forest: Fears of Our Childhood

Object Class: Euclid Supposedly Neutralized

SCP-213-FR is a bound manuscript entitled ‘The Vagabonds of the Dark Forest: Fears of Our Childhood’. On the back cover it declares itself: "a children's story book, to be read in the evening before going to sleep". The book is filled with a series of single page, illustrated tales depicting children lost in an unknown forest. Pages appear, disappear, and change often, the stories seemingly evolutionary as the book and the children in the stories adapt to a changing environment.

SCP-590 - I Feel Your Pain

Object Class: Safe

SCP-590 appears as a 16 year old boy. He has stayed seemingly the same age through his containment. This appears to be the only benefit SCP-590 receives from his abilities. Upon contact with SCP-590 the wounds (mental or physical) of a person begin to heal, and are transferred to SCP-590. At the direction of Dr. Bright, SCP-590 has been exposed to several people with neurological conditions, to the point that he has the mental capacity of a three year old child. He is often used to save severely injured researchers and higher personnel.

SCP-682 - The Extremely Hard to Destroy Reptile

Object Class: Keter

SCP-682 is an enormous, reptilian creature with evolutionary adaptability hither-to undreamt of. It is capable of adapting to any situation to ensure its survival. For example, when exposed to SCP-173, it sprouted several eyes. When foundation personnel shot out those eyes, they grew back with clear, protective shells. SCP-682 has been reported to pull itself back together after being decapitated, and grown back more than half its body mass after having it destroyed.

SCP-863 is highly hostile, and seems to despise all life. It is sentient, in fact very intelligent, and fully capable of communication. It calls all life ‘disgusting’ and will attack any living being with full intent to kill. Due to this, termination attempts are being made by the foundation, so far with very little success. SCP-682 is contained in the facility in a bath of hydrochloric acid in hopes of continuously breaking down it’s muscles and keeping it contained.

SCP-963 - Immortality

Object Class: Euclid

SCP-963 is an amulet made from white-gold, with diamonds surrounding a ruby in a starburst pattern. It is seemingly incapable of being damaged. SCP-963 seemingly had no abilities until the death of Dr. Jack Bright, who was studying it at the time and was holding it upon the time of his death. Now, when the amulet is worn, the consciousness of Dr. Bright transfers to the wearer. If the amulet is in unbroken contact with a subject longer than 3 months, the transfer is permanent.

SCP-1762 - Here Be Dragons

Object Class: Safe Neutralize

A cardboard box that appears to be empty, most of the time. It’s spray painted silver, and has ‘here be dragons’ written on the side. Every so often, the box will open and pour black smoke that quickly disappears, followed by the emergence of a series of small, animated origami figures in numbers that range from 40 to 400. These figures, SCP-1762-2s resemble dragons, of all known worldwide depictions but mainly favoring western and european depictions. The figures are made, after analysis, of Kami paper. They will fly together and play with each other and any nearby personnel.

The neutralization of SCP-1762 occurred after an event referred to as the Jabberwocky Event, in which it appears the SCP self terminated.

SCP-1990 - The Mediocre Wish Granter

Object Class: Safe

SCP-1990 is a stuffed tiger capable of granting wishes, but rarely to optimal standard. It was retrieved from a young orphaned girl whose parents had died of suffocation. Local reports said the family had been having money problems. If a person makes a wish while in close proximity to SCP-1990 before sleeping for approximately 8 hours. Only one wish can be made per day, and any wish made that affects the life and wellbeing of a living creature will be reversed the next day.

SCP-3008 - The Infinite Ikea

Object Class: Euclid

SCP-3008 has the appearance of a normal Ikea store. When a person enters SCP-3008 and walks out of sight of the entrance, they are translocated to SCP-3008-1. SCP-3008-1 is a space that appears to mimic the inside of an Ikea retail store, buthas measured to beyond 10 square km and, due to inconclusive results from laser measures, is theorized to be infinite. The restaurants in the space are always filled with hot food, although there do not appear to be staff manning them. SCP-3008-1 is inhabited by an unknown number of trapped civilians who, according to survivors, may have come from alternate dimensions due to significant gaps in their knowledge. One civilian came from a world with no Statue of Liberty, while another had never heard of the declaration of independence. SCP-3008-1 is filled with a group of tall, disproportionate humanoids, SCP-3008-2 who are docile during the day, but at night become hostile. Speaking in calm voices, saying ‘The store is now closed, please exit the building’.
